Class experiment record a basic skit, I was what James called "talent" the person in-front of the camera. I wished I was on like camera or mic/sound board. I'm not a front person on camera. But looking over the other areas, it seem we would learn more on the job.
Camera:
- When setting up the tripod, lower the bottom part of legs of tripod first, then the top part of the legs of the tripod. This is the easiest way to make the height of the tripod right for the camera.
- Make sure the camera is secure to the tripod.
- Settings of the camera are correct for the recording.
- The lens cap is off.
Lighting:

- Don't move the lights while on,
- Make sure they aren't around smoke alarms,
- While turning them on, turn/look away and call "striking" letting the other know you are turning them on.
- Let the light cool down when finishing, before packing the set away
- Lay equipment are out of hero area (main area)
- Lay equipment in a way that you don't need to move it to get things out
- Extend the top part of the lamp first, for making the lamp taller, then the lower parts as it is easier to change the height of the lamp this way.
- The shatters around the light can narrow or widen the light coming out.
- The sand-bags around the middle part of the feet, to secure the lamp.
- If needing Gel (clear plastic that is coloured), we use CTB, colour temperature blue, make sure the lights are off and cool down to place the gel on.
Sound:
- It's a two person job, one on the mic/Boom Operator and the other on the recorder, they are called tethered together as there is a cord between the two of them.
- Before recording, placing of the mic, is it in the frame of the recording on camera? Also is it pointing towards the noise or person speaking. Then check the levels of the talent/actors where there natural sound it, try and keep it around 75%.
- The Boom Operator and Recorder needs to make sure where the other is, as there is a cord tethered together, so the cord isn't yanked out or tripped over.
