Digital - Still life

Greetings

Tuesday 25th of August 2020

So last week (18th of August) I had no clue of what "lesson" will be taught throughout the portfolio, then I looked down at my tablet and thought what no about art? like your need to learn throughout your drawing and experimentation or you'll never get to where you like to be as an artist.

So last week I worked on this artwork, to be honest it isn't finish and probably wouldn't finish it as the concept is a little difficult to make realistic. But it is a good start of what the "lesson" would be about.

The creature without the background art, so can see the creature better.

The artwork that the person was creating when the creatures comes out of the drawing.

I was trying to draw my arm drawing on the tablet with the creature that will teach me a lesson on experimenting on artwork is okay and you should learn from it. Also I thought of trying to make the creature a wee bit like artist-block appearance as if you don't learn from your experimental work you will lose your creativeness spark.

In the weekend 22nd-23rd August I did a sketch without reference of a rubbish bin in an art room. It be full of "failed" drawings/paper. Here is my pencil sketch.

Then we come to today, in class I wanted to refine the bin design and actually have a reference.

After about an hour and half I got a bit bored drawing a gray rubbish bin so I went back to my proposal and get some ideas. In the still life category I noted down, Mimics?

Mimics are a Dungeon and Dragon (D&D) creature where are first look it looks like a normal ordinary item (an example in D&D is treasure chests) but then when you interact with it, it shows its "true" form. I say "true" form, cause their original form is unknown, they mimic an object for their outta appearance, and when interact normally their mouths show and eyes. Here is a drawing of a mimic in D&D from the D&D Creature Guide, showing its "true" form.

So with the reference of a normal rubbish bin filled up with paper and the reference of a mimic on another window I combined the two together, creating this creation.

I might have to rethink of the inner part of the rubbish bin though, as it doesn't completely work well.

Also I did kinda went off my proposal as I stated I would like to stay away from colours and keep it black and white. But I do like the vibrate colours of the tongue and other bits of the mimic. Might have to think why I would add colour to this portfolio.

For example of why add colour, it could be colour gets lost the more the person doesn't adapt to the experimenting art is good experience, and slowly losing their creative spark, making the artworks more gray and less of life.
