Digital - Creature design - Silhouette

Greetings

Tuesday 1st of September 2020

We worked with silhouette part of the design of our creature, this is my work with written notes.

Now the question why a 'Goblin' design. I was a little stuck on an idea and thought whats something that lurks in the shadow and is greedy, so I thought of some sort of goblin. Also thought of it being a creation of the artist (that needs to be taught the lesson that you need to learn from your experiments) so it is part scribbled as a rough drawing.

So silhouettes are usually fully coloured in but as the creature is part scribbled I thought why not make it that the parts that are scribbled is seen through. After figuring out the pose of creature I would like it to be more unfinished and as the silhouette is main form for the audience to witness, so I added some scribbles leaving the back of the creature like the creature is unstable, its unfinished.

After finishing the silhouette I started shading in the in-between to get an idea what I can do next... So far.

History - Guerrilla Girls Manifesto

 Greetings

Thursday 27th of August 2020

Today we are researching into the Manifestos of the Guerrilla Girls.

Blogging activity:

Find five examples of the Guerrilla Girls' Posters

Guerrilla Girls' are an anonymous group of feminist artists who want to speak out about certain subjects. Subjects that include biases against woman and people of colour, usually around art in particular. Here is a five posters/stickers that were produce to spread word around and try and make the world more equal.

Guerrilla Girls' Pop Quiz', Guerrilla Girls, 1990 | Tate

Guerrilla Girls' Pop Quiz

This poster was created in the 1990, it refers to the university campuses where in the February they have art shows based on the African Americans history and in March is the Women's History art shows. But during rest of the year, they disrespect the two groups, treating them back before the art shows even though the art shows were about to respecting the two groups. In quoting from the Whitney Chadwick, Guerrilla Girls, Confessions of the Guerrilla Girls, New York 1995, page 66, that these art shows are 'another form of tokenism'.

13 Vintage Guerrilla Girl Posters That Made The Art World A Better Place For Women | HuffPost

We Sell White Bread

This poster (created 1987) was originally designed as a sticker, for the purpose of sticking them to art gallery windows and doors so people can subliminal see them instead full out in peoples face. Also stickers can be distributed cheaply and quick for mass distribution.

As stated before, these were more for the art galleries that mostly sell and show case only white men artworks. To state to people that these galleries aren't containing white women and non-white artist, this more than likely reduce the income of people coming in and see the galleries.

Women In America Earn 2/3 Of What Men Do Poster

Created by the Guerrilla Girls in the 1985, stating that the fact that Women artist gets far less paid/commission than Men do, even less than Women that work at ordinary jobs.

Guerrilla Girls, Republicans Do Believe In A Woman’s Right To Control Her Own Body

Republicans Do Believe In A Woman’s Right To Control Her Own Body

In 1990s, the Guerrilla Girls expand their voice from art galleries to the US Government, producing a poster that is anti-republican in 1992. Even though the the poster seems to support in words, but in photo the photos seem against the party. Showing women can get these things done but these things can be negative to the body, yet at the time the Republicans were anti-abortion. So if women can get pregnant not on propose or by accident, they have to carry the child or doing something that was illegal.

Guerrilla Girls, "Dearest Art Collector"

Dearest Art Collector

This poster, Dearest Art Collector, created in 1986, is their first experiment poster with colour. So the reason of this poster was because art critics in the New York art galleries and museums were only critiquing male artist. The Guerrilla Girls incorporate handwritten style on pink stationary paper also with the humor of sarcasm, to provoke discussion and show that feminists aren't just a group of serious complaining women.
